Do Academics require Leadership Training?


A leader is someone who puts together the best in his team to come up with something tangible. A ship can not sail smoothly without a skipper as the primary duty of the skipper is to co-ordinate between the crew to bring about the movement of the ship in the appropriate direction with the current speed. A Professor is the skipper of a research team and the progress of the team depends significantly on the mentoring the professor provides.

Academic groups spend a considerable amount of time in sorting out inter-personal and intra-personal issues such as conflicts between members, lack of motivation etc. The issues result in a drop in productivity and affects the entire team. The prime factor that contributes to this problem is the inadequacy in leadership.
